Dr. A. L. Andrews

Dr. A. L. Andrews was a leading figure in Hawaii’s chapter of the American Red Cross during the war. Under his guidance, the Red Cross mobilized thousands of volunteers across the islands who engaged in everything from knitting socks and rolling bandages to collecting medical supplies and organizing first aid courses. Dr. Andrews also promoted war nursing programs and coordinated with military hospitals to ensure Hawaii was prepared for casualties. His work demonstrated the territory’s deep civilian commitment to both humanitarian and medical aspects of wartime support.
