Jennie Hare Rush

Jennie Hare, later known as Mrs. William R. Rush, provided a unique kind of civilian support during the war. As a former resident of Hawaii and wife of a Navy Yard commandant, she helped maintain morale among Hawaii’s sailors stationed in Boston by organizing gatherings and social events. Her efforts, though informal, reflect the civilian contributions made by many Hawaiian women to support the welfare and cohesion of local servicemen far from home.
