Ethel Damon

Ethel Damon joined the American Red Cross in 1917, initially serving in Paris as a nurses’ aide and interpreter. She later worked in Le Havre under Mabel Wilcox in the Children’s Bureau, assisting in establishing hospitals and dispensaries for Belgian and French refugee children. Her service included field visits to West Flanders and managing free medical care for impoverished families. In recognition of her work, she was decorated by both the city of Le Havre and the Queen of Belgium
