As chair of the Women’s Committee of the Territorial Food Commission, Annie C. Alexander led Hawaii’s home-front conservation movement. She coordinated island-wide campaigns encouraging families to conserve wheat, meat, fats, and sugar, following national guidelines. Annie worked with churches, schools, and clubs, even visiting the Japanese Consulate to enlist cooperation from immigrant communities. Her work helped shift public habits and instill the ethos of ‘clean plate’ patriotism throughout the islands.
