Frank S. Blackwood

On January 4, 1918, the Hawaii Herald reported that the British Consulate in Honolulu, E.L.S. Gordon, hoped to recruit “every British of fighting age in the Hawaiian Islands.”

According to this article, Frank S. Blackwood was among those recruited as part of the Contingent who left on September 21, 1917.

Born in 1892 in England, he arrived in Honolulu on board the SS Sonoma and worked as a waiter.

He died on May 9, 1918, in Boulogne, France, and is buried in the British cemetery there.

He is also remembered at the War Memorial Natatorium for his sacrifice in giving his life in the Great War.
