Edward Noah Kahokuoluna was born on September 11, 1892, in Puna on the island of Hawaiʻi. Raised in a time of transition for the Hawaiian Islands, he would grow into a young man marked by dedication, education, and duty.
He attended Kamehameha Schools. Edward lived with his sister, Mrs. Rose Mililika, as a young adult, at 933 Austin Lane in Palama, Honolulu. He worked as an office boy at the Harbor Master’s Office under the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private when the United States entered World War I. Though he did not go overseas, his military service came with its hardships. On July 10, 1918, Private Kahokuoluna died at the department hospital at Fort Shafter in Honolulu. He was only 25 years old.
He was laid to rest at Kawaiahao Church and his name is memorialized on the bronze Honor Roll at the Waikīkī War Memorial Natatorium, among the names of those who served and died in service during the Great War.
