Carel De Roo was born in the Netherlands on November 6, 1846, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1875. He was connected to the government and active in the Masons in Honolulu prior to the war. During the war, he was a Field Clerk in the Army when he died on May 25, 1918, in Honolulu. He is buried in Oahu Cemetery in Honolulu. He is listed on the plaque outside the War Memorial Natatorium for giving his life in the Great War.
